Hi, We’re back! All well, all in one piece, a bit tired, lots of photos to share and view, lots of stories to tell. And you know what? I really don’t know where to start.
It is only logical that I’ll start with the end. A rather comical one at that. At least in my point of view, I do tend to have a quirky sense of humour sometimes. Picture this: it is nearing midnight, earlier that evening we had a family discussion whether we would camp overnight in Germany or attempt to drive straight home in one haul. We both were feeling fit and the kids voted for home instead of another campsite and “really we will be very good and we will not fight and try to sleep, promise”.
It was decided to drive straight home. After a while, kids sleeping peacefully in the back, we are discussing how we would park the car in the front of the house, put the tenttrailer behind our gate, upon which I asked dear Husband: “you do have a set of my carkeys on your bunch of keys do you? Since my car has to be parked out..” Silence…
Stream of words you don’t want me to repeat here….
At the same time an image forms in my head of his keys in his jeanspocket..
The very pocket of the jeans tucked far far away under all our luggage in the firmly closed tenttrailer (which has to be completely opened, folded out and unpacked to retrieve a single item…)
And I begin laughing…softly as to not wake our kids and not further anger my better half…Husband is not a happy camper. I glance sideways, my eyes back on the road again, hands on the steeringwheel. And then I really can’t stop myself, laughing out loud! Here we are, crossing the German-Dutch border, all campsites closed, pitchdark, two hours to go before we are home and we can’t get in! And tadatadaa I had nothing to do with it! I remember asking only two days ago if he’d rather had his keys in my backpack instead of in his jeans….
Hooray for mobile phones and a lovely neighbour who answers her phone at 23.30 at night and agrees to put our doorkey under the doormat!!
Today we unloaded the car and trailer and I am wading through heaps of laundry. The heatwave is not over yet and the weather is hot and clammy. The kids are doing a great job helping out with various chores and I load and unload the washing machine. At the end of the day the laundry is only ankle deep, the trailer cleaned and in the garage, kids are splashing in the pool and we are having dinner outside with bbq-d chicken, a salad and some french bread. Lots of fresh fruit for dessert.
And on the kitchen counter are my treasures! I have managed to squeeze in a couple of items I simply couldn’t do without. I will tell you all about it in coming posts. Please do come back for more lovely photos and juicy stories.
Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteTreasures...what a tease.
ReplyDeleteSo we have the beginning and the end, now we wait for the middle.
Treasures...ummm...
Welcome home!
Glad you had such a great time. The story of the key remindes me of our car-key, which went swimming with my husband in the Italian see last year...my husband came out of the water, but unfortunately the key drowned somewhere....no spare key...well, I remember that same moment of looking at eachother and realising that the key is not in the bag as we hoped!!!
